Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko believes that a constitutional majority will be found in the Verkhovna Rada to introduce changes to the Constitution.
Tymoshenko stated this during a meeting on Thursday in Kyiv with local government officials in charge of forming local budgets.
She stressed the excessive centralization of power in the country and the need to decentralize it “not only in terms of financial flow.”
“We need to make changes to the Constitution that will allow local government bodies to have their own executive functions. I will introduce this initiative and think that a constitutional majority will be found in the Verkhovna Rada to strengthen the authority of local government bodies,” said Tymoshenko.
She stressed that she supports the concept by which the country should have “strong local government.”
