Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko has noted the high level of cooperation between Naftohaz of Ukraine and Gazprom. “We have done extremely constructive work over the past half year – contracts are being fulfilled,” stated Tymoshenko during the start of her meeting with Chairman of the Board of Directors of Gazprom Alexei Miller and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Naftogaz of Ukraine Oleh Dubyna.
Yulia Tymoshenko noted that the government is constantly utilizing measures aimed at adhering to the schedule of payments for Russian gas and preventing the accumulation of new debts. Tymoshenko thanked the management of Gazprom and Naftohaz of Ukraine for their work in filling gas depositories, thanks to which Ukraine now has 8 billion cubic meters of gas stored.
The Prime Minister believes that a long-term agreement on gas supply should be signed between Ukraine and Russia. “We are extremely interested in sensing that we are reliable partners for one another,” underscored Tymoshenko.
Meanwhile, Miller stressed that Gazprom is open to cooperation with Naftohaz of Ukraine on all issues. According to him, friendly dialogue has been built between the two structures: “Even on simple issues we strive to find an agreement, mutual understanding and obtain a result.”
At the same time, Alexei Miller underscored that now is the time to discuss the issue of building cooperation for 2009 and a longer period. “We need to reach an agreement on a long-term contract, and I think that during today’s meeting we will be able to discuss the principles of organizing such work,” he stated.
