Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko believes that only a program of constitutional changes that has the support of 300 deputies should be submitted to the Verkhovna Rada.
She stated this during her live appearance on Channel 5 on Tuesday evening.
“The parliament needs to find 300 votes to adopt the Constitution. Changing the Constitution is a very important matter. If there aren’t 300 votes, then simply submitting it as a popular step, in my opinion, isn’t serious,” said Tymoshenko.
The Premier believes that based on the results of discussions between factions and with constitutional law experts the draft law of constitutional changes that will have a chance to get the support of 300 deputies will be submitted.
“I would like for constitutional reform in Ukraine to be made for the state and not individual politicians. Earlier the Constitution was made for certain individuals, and now we have such results,” stressed Yulia Tymoshenko.
Commenting on the possibility of early Verkhovna Rada elections, Tymoshenko said, “I don’t look at early elections with piety because elections are a colossal job, and believe me, you don’t want to do this job every year. And for people this is instability.”
