Premier Yulia Tymoshenko blames the heads of oblast state administrations in sabotaging the government’s anti-inflationary policy.
“According to our information, the leaders of the oblast state administrations are a component in the sabotage of the battle with inflation,” said Tymoshenko during the government meeting on Wednesday.
According to her, some of the governors “are doing absolutely nothing” about this issue.
“Many are criticizing the Kuchma regime, but then they removed governors if prices rose 1% because the government had to be accountable and not involved in sabotage. And if someone thinks that by sabotaging all the measures in the battle with inflation they will live according to the principle “worse is better” because the democratic government needs to be destroyed, that’s not going to happen. We’ve tolerated enough and today we will put an end to this,” said Tymoshenko.
She stressed that according to the law on local administration, governors are responsible for regulating prices on their territory, and according to the law on prices and price setting they are obligated to shape price policy.
Tymoshenko announced that on Wednesday the Cabinet will listen to 5 leaders of oblast state administrations and the head of the Council of Ministers of Crimea in connection with the high level of inflation in their regions.
