Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko has stated that the BYuT faction intends to continue to block the work of parliament until three anti-inflationary laws are passed.
She stated this during a briefing in the lobby of the Verkhovna Rada on Tuesday, May 13.
“Today our faction very clearly made conditions that should have been implemented four months ago…For four months I didn’t say a word, didn’t give a look that would give doubt that we support the support the president or the coalition,” noted Tymoshenko.
“For four months I didn’t answer a single accusation, a single humiliation, a single prohibition and impediment in the government’s actions. For four months I believed that the democratic coalition could work and that the president would be together with it and the government,” she added.
Tymoshenko stated that “today there is no alternative to the democratic coalition, but I’m starting to act, and I will act rather strictly.”
According to the Premier, “for four months there has been total blocking of the work of the government, total disregard of anti-inflationary draft laws that were submitted to the Verkhovna Rada by our political team, there is total sabotage by the governors.”
Tymoshenko stated that she will no longer watch as “people’s hryvnias and kopecks dissolve in the wind, eaten away by inflation caused by those who are fighting with the government, with me personally, and are getting ready for the next presidential elections in 2009.”
“I’m not getting ready for the next elections. I want to serve the country every day and provide results,” stressed the Premier, adding that “the empty discussions of today, including from high tribunes, need to be stopped, and we need to take work on clear and laconic matters.”
“We’re not going to walk away from the tribune until three anti-inflationary laws are passed,” stated the Premier.
“I intend to turn empty chatter into real actions,” stressed Tymoshenko, noting that “because of the unshadowing of the economy, today we have more budget revenues than expected and are ready to direct every kopeck for the well-being of the people.”
